About Denis Cheong

Dr. Cheong obtained his medical degree at the National University of Singapore in 1983 and went on to train in the field of General Surgery.
On returning to Singapore, Dr Cheong spearheaded the development of Colorectal Surgery at Tan Tock Seng Hospital. He was appointed consultant in 1995 and was subsequently promoted to senior consultant and head of Colorectal service. He has held appointments as Director of the Digestive Disease Centre and was the visiting consultant to KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital, John Hopkins (Singapore) International Medical Centre and the National Cancer Centre, Singapore. Dr Cheong was awarded another HMDP scholarship to further develop his expertise in Colorectal Cancer Surgery in 2003 and did attachments at St. Mark’s Hospital in London, the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm and the University of Uppsala, Sweden. In 2008, he was again awarded the HMDP fellowship to hone his skills in Laparoscopic Colorectal Surgery at the Australian Endosurgery Centre in Brisbane.
Dr Cheong has extensive experience in managing anal conditions like hemorrhoids, fistula and fissure, as well as treating colorectal cancer and diverticular disease. He is an expert endoscopist and has performed more than 12,000 colonoscopies over the past 20 years. He is a pioneer of laparoscopic colon surgery in Singapore; having done more than 180 related operations. Dr. Cheong played a key role in developing Oncology services in TTSH and led the development of laparoscopic (keyhole) colorectal surgery at the hospital. He took up undergraduate and postgraduate training as a Senior Clinical Lecturer and examiner for the MBBS finals with the NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. Dr Cheong is also actively involved in humanitarian work and was a member of the Singapore earthquake relief team to Turkey in 1999. Dr Cheong left TTSH and joined the Panasia Surgery group in 2009.

About Lim Jit Fong

Dr Lim Jit Fong is a general surgeon practising at Gleneagles Hospital, Singapore.
Dr Lim has a strong interest in minimally invasive colorectal surgery. He is adept at laparoscopic (keyhole) colorectal surgery, including single incision (single keyhole) colorectal surgery. He is also accredited to perform robotic colorectal surgery.

After completing his advanced specialty training in general surgery in 2003, Dr Lim was conferred a Singapore General Hospital (SGH) Fellowship to further his training in management of functional defaecatory disorders and minimally invasive colorectal surgery at the Royal Melbourne Hospital, Australia.
Upon returning from Australia in 2005, Dr Lim worked as a consultant in the Department of Colorectal Surgery at SGH before leaving for private practice in 2011.
During his time at SGH, Dr Lim was the director of the Pelvic Floor Disorder Service, Anorectal Physiology and Ultrasound Laboratory, and Clinical Research in the Department of Colorectal Surgery. He also coordinated the Department of Colorectal Surgery’s Medical Education at the hospital.
He is currently a visiting consultant at the Department of General Surgery at Khoo Teck Puat Hospital.

Dr Mark Wong is the Medical Director and Senior Consultant surgeon of Mark Wong Surgery, and practices at Mount Alvernia Hospital. Prior to this, Dr Wong practiced for more than 15 years at the renowned Department of Colorectal Surgery at Singapore General Hospital, where he pursued his interests in minimally-invasive (robotic and laparoscopic) colorectal cancer surgery, endoscopy (gastroscopy and colonoscopy) and functional disorders (piles, constipation and incontinence).

Dr Mark Wong completed two coveted Ministry of Health (MOH) sponsored fellowships in Minimally- Invasive Colorectal and Pelvic Floor Disorders in France in 2010 and Denmark in 2014, respectively. Shortly after his return, he was appointed Director of the SGH Pelvic Floor Disorders Service, the Nation’s first multidisciplinary initiative between specialists from Colorectal Surgery, Urology & Gynaecology, providing holistic care for faecal incontinence, constipation and pelvic organ prolapse. In 2015, he was appointed Director of the SGH Gastrointestinal Function Unit, another first in the country offering comprehensive evaluation and advanced therapies for functional gastrointestinal disorders.

Dr Mark Wong is highly sought after as an opinion leader in the field of minimally invasive (laparoscopic and robotic) colorectal cancer and pelvic floor surgery, having been invited to lecture at numerous international conferences. He is widely published and has served on the medical advisory boards of leading hospitals in Singapore. He is also dedicated to training the next generation of surgeons, having held academic appointments in both Duke-NUS and National University of Singapore Medical schools. In 2015, he was awarded the prestigious SGH CEO Service Award in recognition of his clinical excellence and compassion to patients. In 2016, he received the coveted SGH scholarship to pursue an Executive Masters in Business Administration (MBA), which he successfully completed at the Singapore Management University in 2017 with top Honours.
