About Akash Verma
Dr Akash Verma is a respiratory physician at Mount Elizabeth Hospital, Singapore.He is also a lung specialist, and has a subspecialty interest in interventional pulmonology and lung cancer. He is trained in both flexible and rigid bronchoscopy with techniques of laser resection of lung tumours, silicone stent placement in the airways, pleuroscopy, EBUS-TBNA, and navigation bronchoscopy.He was previously a senior consultant in respiratory medicine at Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH), and an adjunct assistant professor at NTU’s Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine.
After graduation, Dr Verma trained at TTSH before obtaining his membership of Royal College of Physicians (UK). Upon completion of advanced training in respiratory medicine and critical care, He was conferred a fellow of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore.Subsequently, he was awarded the Health Manpower Development Program (HMDP) fellowship and was a visiting fellow in the department of Interventional Pulmonology at Samsung Medical Centre-Seoul, Mayo Clinic-USA, and University of Chicago.Dr Verma introduced the establishment of the service of “navigation bronchoscopy” in Singapore in 2018 as part of improving the quality of the journey of lung cancer patients in the healthcare system.In addition, he undertook initiatives such as the formation of a dedicated lung cancer clinic, and increased utilisation of ultrasound guided and rigid bronchoscopy techniques with the emphasis on provision of timely diagnosis with both safety and comfort.Dr Verma has authored over 40 peer-reviewed scientific papers to date. He continues to have an active interest in publishing and teaching, and has taught in several international conferences and bronchoscopy courses as an invited speaker in Southeast Asia and Europe.
Dr Yang obtained his basic medical degree from the National University of Singapore in 1994, and subsequently received training in Respiratory Medicine and Intensive Care Medicine at Singapore General Hospital (SGH). He further trained in Intensive Care Medicine and Interstitial Lung Disease at the University of Washington Medical Centre in Seattle, USA. He has obtained his Fellowship with the College of Chest Physicians (USA), the Chapter of Respiratory Physicians (Singapore) and the Chapter of Intensive Care Physicians (Singapore). He also holds the European Diploma in Intensive Care. Dr Yang is currently a Consultant in The Respiratory Practice and has a strong interest in Critical Care, Interstitial Lung Disease as well as End-stage Lung Diseases. He is involved with research in Critical Care and Interstitial Lung Disease, and has published in both local and overseas medical journals.
