About Gan Eng Cern

Dr Gan Eng Cern is an ear, nose and throat (ENT) specialist at Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital, Singapore.He is well-versed in managing a wide range of ENT conditions, and has a passion for treating conditions of the nose and sinuses, as well as snoring and obstructive sleep apnoea.Prior to starting private practice, Dr Gan was an ENT specialist and the deputy director of rhinology (nose and sinus subspecialty) at Changi General Hospital (CGH). He is currently a visiting consultant at the hospital.

Dr Gan obtained his medical degree in Sydney, Australia and his master's degree in otorhinolaryngology from Singapore. He completed his ENT specialisation training in Singapore. He is a member of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, UK and a fellow of the Academy of Medicine. He completed his subspecialty training in nose and sinuses (rhinology and endoscopic skull base surgery) at St Paul’s Sinus Centre at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada.He was a senior clinical lecturer at the National University of Singapore Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, and has spoken at various local, regional and international conferences.He was the rhinology director of the foundation surgical skills course in otolaryngology (an annual cadaveric dissection course organised by the ENT department at CGH to train ENT surgeons around the world). He was a treasurer of the Society of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery Singapore and was the course director of the 4th Foundation Surgical Skills Course in Otolaryngology in 2014.Dr Gan practises evidence-based medicine and has been published in numerous leading peer-reviewed ENT journals. His work in patient positioning during sinus surgery to minimise bleeding and improve safety also won him the prestigious 19th Yahya Cohen Memorial Lectureship in 2014.He has contributed textbook chapters including a topic on fungal rhinosinusitis in the 8th edition of Scott-Brown’s Otorhinolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery (a definitive reference British textbook for ENT and head and neck surgeons).Throughout his career, Dr Gan has received multiple awards in teaching, patient care, research and medical work. These include the Best Educator Award, and Wow Patient Compliment Award and the Caring Award, both by Eastern Health Alliance. He was also a recipient of the SingHealth Best Doctor Award in 2007.
