#PrimeVideo Series | What is Hepatitis | Dr. Wang Yu Tien #primeishealth #singapore

Hello, I’m Dr. Wang Yu Tien. I’m a Gastroenterology and Hepatology consultant at Nobel Gastroenterology Centre and I’m based in Gleaneagles Hospital. So today we’re gonna talk about the ABCs of Hepatitis. Hepatitis means an inflammation of the liver. The liver as you know is a vital organ in our body. It’s positioned on the right upper quadrant of our abdomen and it’s a vital organ which is involved with the digestion and the metabolism of nutrition as well as detoxification of our blood. Broadly we can separate it into Acute and Chronic Hepatitis . Acute Hepatitis means a sudden and short-term inflammation of the liver. It may be caused by Hepatitis A or E. The severity of the disease may range from mild to severe. In mild disease there may be no symptoms whereas in severe inflammation the patients may experience jaundice, fatigue, lethargy, poor appetite, nausea and vomiting or sometimes even pain at the right upper quadrant part of the abdomen The diagnosis of Hepatitis A and E is made through blood tests. There is no treatment for Hepatitis A and E and the treatment is mainly based on supportive treatment Means we treat the patient’s symptoms as well as hydration. However in patients with very severe disease they may develop liver failure. This is fatal unless treated. So we advise home rest, drinking enough water avoiding any medication or alcohol which may further damage the liver. Consult your doctor if the symptoms worsen. And lastly, prevention is important. Make sure there’s good hand hygiene and regular hand washing to prevent the spread of this Acute Hepatitis.. more at www.prime.sg Don’t forget to Like | Subscribe | Share Thank you for watching.
